Initial Design

  1. Here is the start of the initial design. It will most likely have to stick out a bit to accommodate for the larger display but I will keep it in the same bolt holes. Also the back has the same connectors on the Traeger wiring, just plug and play.

  2. Will the base model be able to be connected to your network ? Or will it only be the Pro model?

  3. I am going to keep that base model with just control, and temp probes (maybe logging to USB). The pro would have network.

I want to try to keep the base to something everyone can afford. The network alone adds anywhere from at least $50-100, plus the pro might have a bigger screen or a touch screen rather than a text LCD. I havn't sorted that out yet.

  4. I like the logging to usb idea . Could you also network thru the usb ?

  5. No, not really. I need to do the networking through a device with a full TCP/IP stack. This is really the only way to make it easy, and what drives up the cost. I am hoping to be able to get charting like how I posted the data a few days ago just by pulling up the IP in a browser.

Plus, I do web design and coding, so that is alot easier for me than USB networking...

  6. Ryan what type of plugs are you using on the probes ?

  7. I was originally going to use 3.5mm audio jack (like maverick and most meat probes) however. There is a lot of durability and signal problems associated with this. One of the biggest is that thermocouple wire cannot be soldered, only welded.

With this in mind. I am using industry standard Mini Thermocouple Jacks. Now the good and bad...

Good: Industry standard connector, Easy to fix if damaged. If you want a different type of probe that I do not carry you can go out and but it. It will work fine with my controller.

Bad: Connectors are expensive! Almost $4/each for PCB connectors. However the wire connectors are MUCH cheaper <$1

I feel the trade offs are worth it for the better performance
