It’s starting to come together…
So I wanted to give a quick update on some progress. I have a micro controller I am working with as well as an LCD screen, buttons, prototyping boards…. all sorts of fun. So far things are going good with no major hiccups. I have some of the code for the startup and shutdown sequence done as well as changing the temperatures for all the alarms and setpoints. Its very exciting! If your interested in the details leave me a comment and I will post more information in the forums.
Also, I have started on a design for the controller and hookups. Here is the front:
Please let me know what you think. This should give you an idea about where I am headed. Unfortunately to have a bigger screen the controller will not be able to be flush mounted, but I will try to make it as small as I can. It should bolt into the same slot as the current controller. As you can see it has a big bright LCD on the front with 5 buttons to control everything, as well as 3 1/8″ jacks for temp gages. On the back there is 4 connectors to directly plug in the Traeger wiring as well as one 1/8″ jack to accept the temp sensor.
More updates this week on the controller progress…

i am excited to see a new control. will the control have a hold setting? how about a lower temp than the 225 setting? keep me posted!!
Hey jeff, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Glad your excited. Yes I am going to do a hold feature ( meat is done and drop to a lower temp). I will try to go lower than 225, but there is a point where flame outs become a major issue.
I sure am interested in the work you are doing for a Treager controller.
Can you tell me at this point if your controller will be more affordable
than the Treager factory controller??
Thanks,
CB
Very interested as well. Been a long time since you made a post.
Pictures shows control over 3 seperate meats, is this correct?
Will there be probes for each that plugs directly into the meat like a meat thermometer???
Cost???
Looking forward to an update…
@CB
I am trying to target the price around $250 – $300. After the first controller which will have a lot of features, I will be working on a more bare-bones model that will be cheaper and about the cost or lower than the standard Traeger controller.
@Drew
Check the most recent post, I just updated some more.
Yes, 3 separate meat probes. Each one is a separate plug just like a meat thermo.
